He’s a Dick

Forgive me for unleashing a flash of elegance here but five-deferment Dick Cheney should shut the fuck up. While his name, forgive me, provides all kinds of fuel for my comedic streak, for example, the man gives men’s genitalia a bad name, the damage he has done and continues to do about all that can be true and should be true about my country is so savage he ought to be jailed. He is, in short, a war criminal and ought to be tried and, if justice is served, jailed.

Dick races around making as many appearances on Fox  News (God help us all) as he can defending torture. If you are truly loyal to what my country, the United States of America, is supposed to be about, you should be sickened by this, not to mention angered. Not only does torture not work, it violates all we are about: morally, legally and ethically. To have government sponsored torture puts us on the same level as the very enemies we are now fighting.

I suspect some hear the words Geneva Convention and think weakness. Bullshit. The term Geneva Convention refers to the agreement reached in 1949 in the aftermath of World War II. Now pause here and think or a minute. No person or group in history could exceed the brutality of  Hitler and the Nazis. Yet the world responded, not in kind, but in a joined commitment to the sanctity of human life and the decency that is present people and countries who are strong in character, not cowardly murdering little wimps like Dick.

Here is an excerpt from the 1949 accord signed, by the way, by 194 countries.

“Protected persons are entitled, in all circumstances, to respect for their persons, their honor, their family rights, their religious convictions and practices, and their manners and customs. They shall at all times be humanely treated, and shall be protected especially against all acts of violence or threats thereof and against insults and public curiosity. Women shall be especially protected against any attack on their honor, in particular against rape, enforced prostitution, or any form of indecent assault. Without prejudice to the provisions relating to their state of health, age and sex, all protected persons shall be treated with the same consideration by the Party to the conflict in whose power they are, without any adverse distinction based, in particular, on race, religion or political opinion. However, the Parties to the conflict may take such measures of control and security in regard to protected persons as may be necessary as a result of the war.”

Disagreeing with what you just read is abhorrent to all that America stands for, so, rather than being a Dick like the five-deferment coward, you might want to read the passage again and reconsider.

Waitin’ For the Bully

The doctor says we need to rule out cancer. I cock one eyebrow and say, No shit. He looks up, smiles and says, I think we’ll be okay here but I’m a little worried so best we’re careful. I say, I’m all for careful, bro.

I am surprised I am not surprised and not scared – just pissed. The day is beautiful and I am still in a good mood and the music that pumps pulsing from my car speakers on the ride home fills the air and as always my body moves to the rhythm. Need to rule out cancer, I think, and in a way I am glad because finally I can punch something straight in the mouth. I know the chance of cancer is not huge but knowing the possibility is on me for some curious reason makes me itch for a fight. Almost like I’ve learned a bully may be coming over and I’m thinking good because it’s been a long time since I’ve kicked somebody’s ass and this bully will do me just fine.

I am not worried about the possibility of this fight and realize this truth is a gift of sobriety. I know too there are people walking around these days who can thank my sobriety for the fact their legs have never been broken. The world of politics and advocacy can make you angry sometimes and sometimes, like I told Michael today, I miss the days when you can just challenge someone and throw hands.

Yes yes, I am glad those techniques of problem solving are many years behind me. But still… there are times when I see Dick Cheney – the man gives mens’ genitalia a bad name! – and realize I’d have no problem kicking his wimpy war criminal ass. And then there are others not so famous. One is this silk suited sugary sweet specious simp and, of course, others.

But you know what? I’m gonna go work on my garden today, plant some seeds indoors, listen to music, smile, and wait for the bully if he chooses to come to my door and, if he does – I’ll kick his ass.

AMERICA: A NATION AT RISK

If Senator Barack Obama selects Senator Hillary Clinton for vice-president, his credibility as an agent of change dies on the spot. I believe most Americans are beginning to realize our democracy is at risk.

The bow of America’s ship must turn towards the democracy fought for by the founding fathers. America’s bow must turn towards a democracy that my grandfather fought for in World War I and my father fought for in World War II. With Clinton or McCain anywhere near the helm, this will not happen.

At this moment in our history, Senator Barack Obama is our country’s best and only hope in the presidential race. More than once I have listened to him and found myself daring to believe I may be witnessing greatness. The kind of greatness rooted in what America is supposed to be. The kind of greatness that is not rooted in any political party. If should not select Senator Clinton as his vice-presidential running mate. She has waged a campaign riddled with incidents of dishonesty and dishonor. Raise your hands if you’ve ever mistaken an eight-year-old girl reading poetry for sniper fire. She has twice raised the specter of Robert F. Kennedy’s assassinaton in June 1968 as a reason for her to stay in the race.

I believe Senator Obama may possess the depth of vision and capacity for change along with the ability to bring people together that this country, a country I love, so desperately needs and deserves. But, if he selects Senator Clinton for the VP post, I will stand corrected, heartbroken and nearly convinced that our days as a democracy are numbered. After all, George Bush and Dick Cheney are dictators in mind and, increasingly, in action.

Bush and Cheney have approved torture, tossed aside the legal system that served humanity perfectly well in prosecuting the Nazis. Have we all forgotten the 1945 Nuremberg trials?

Moreover, there are stains on the hands of many from both sides of the aisle for enabling the Bush and Cheney agenda.

If you think saying Bush and Cheney behave like dictators is a stretch, consider the following. They have approved torture, ignored the country’s constitution, knowingly sent young men and women to die based on falsehoods they helped design, rigged the system so their oil company buddies receive record profits, andirect their staff and the Department of Justice to ignore congressional supeonas. How are these actions any different from actions taken by past and present dictators?

The American people are sick to death of both the Republicans and the Democrats. Why? Because by and large the American people are Americans first, which is something they rightfully expect from there leaders. The American people are angry over the deep wounds Bush and Cheney have inflicted on all that is great about America. Bush and Cheney should ponder the words some have attributed to Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto after the attack on Pearl Harbor, “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

I hope and pray the ever increasing support for Senator Obama that comes from Americans of all political persuasions reflects a giant that is, thankfully, wide-awake.

THE AMERICAN PEOPLE NO MORE

The messianic minds of Bush and Cheney, two men (even writing those two words insults all that is good about manhood) who are seeking and in many tragic ways succeeding in establishing the first American Dictatorship. This week the American Dictator Bush along with his cadre of sycophants are using the firestorms tragedy in California to vilify Louisiana’s state and local leadership’s response to Katrina; never mind that anyone whose mind has been walking erect for 10 seconds knows damned well that had the Louisiana population been wealthier and, well, whiter, the response would’ve been far swifter and far more effective.

I don’t suppose the American Dictator Duo will spend much time on California, they are too busy starting (or continuing) World War III by gearing up to attack Iran; never mind that the American military is already stretched dangerously thin, never mind that the whole American story is taking on a trajectory eerily reminiscent of the failed Roman Empire.

It is up to the people of this country to do something and it is up to congress, both sides of the aisle, to stand up and stop the dictators. The problem is, congress is infested with people who are willing to save lives and save America as long as it doesn’t mean putting their jobs at risk. How many of us would say, I’d be willing to save the lives of our young men and woman being killed and maimed overseas but not if it means losing my job?

Let’s get some term limits in place. The American people are tired and scared…and if things don’t change soon…the American people will soon be no more.

BUSH-CHENEY: COMMIT THEM OR JAIL THEM

Okay, so let me see if I have this right. President Bush today said he can’t be sure if there is a civil war in Iraq because he lives in a nice place like the White House; he called the idea that his administration would manipulate evidence against Iran “preposterous” and he said “I go out of my way to thank the families” of military members to help morale.

If thanking the families takes Bush out of his way something is terribly wrong. If living in nice place like the White House stops him from recognizing a civil war we can only be grateful Abraham Lincoln didn’t have the same cognitive deficit. His puffed up indignation at the idea people would doubt his administration’s evidence against another country may mean that living in a nice place like the White House makes it hard for him to identify reality itself.

It is time for the “men in white coats” to come and take this delusional dangerous man to a hospital for a mental health evaluation. They should take Vice President Dick Cheney too because that sadistic (and cowardly) man keeps saying we are winning in Iraq, never mind the ever increasing number of casualities. And both of these men possess a kind of moral heartlessness that prompts them to send members of the miltary into war without proper equipment!

While both these men, and I use the term men loosely, talk about the worldwide fight against terror, both pulled strings to avoid fighting in Vietnam. While former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld may have been the most dangerous defense secretary in my country’s history, the man had courage. On 9/11 Rumsfeld was in the thick of it, helping to rescue Pentagon employees from the burning building. Say what you want about the man, he has courage; the kind of courage you can’t fake. Bush and Cheney are all about fake.

Here’s my idea for Bush and Cheney. In my state there is something called a Two-PC. This stands for two-physician consult and can be used to admit someone to a hospital for a mental health evaluation when someone is determined to be a danger to themselves or others and will not admit themselves voluntarily.

Now I know there are some who would argue against me here. Some like, say, Bill O’Reilly of Fox News or the cigar-sucking pill-popping Rush Limbaugh. I’m sure both would say Bush and Cheney are real Americans, great Americans even. Okay, well, let’s review. Bush claims the quality of his living quarters prevents him from knowing if there is a civil war in Iraq. Despite ever-increasing casualty numbers, Cheney says we’re winning. Knowing that most Americans and most members of the world community know the Bush administration cooked the books so they could start a war, they decided the best way to show they were being honest about their claimed evidence against Iran was to grab a couple of miltary personnel in Iraq, hide their identity, have a closed meeting, present a paucity of evidence, none of which directly ties Iran’s leadership to the Iranian weaponary on the streets of Iraq, and, just to top it all off, they didn’t tell the new defense secretary Robert Gates what they were doing.

All I know about American history tells me that every time our country has been asked to go to war, the administration presented their evidence and views to the country. Never do I recall and administration so sleazy and dishonest that it decided to present evidence anonymously. Evidence many think will be used as a reason to start a war against Iran. Then again, why should we be surprised? There are more than 3,000 American dead now because this administration cooked the books to start a war. Cheney and Bush should go to jail or to a mental hospital, take your pick.

The American people made their view very clear in the last election. Congress should listen. As Americans, we may fight and bicker and argue our political views, with all kinds of zest. But mess with our country’s ability to be safe, and we are Americans first, not Republican, Democrats, Conservatives or Liberals. Lets hope this administration and this congress understand that. Because it is true – and that is not fake.
